Lapsang black tea isthe first ever manufactured black tea and comes from the Wuyi Shan region. It was created by accident when the Chinese army took over a tea factory one night, slept on the freshly picked tea that was waiting to be de-enzymed, rolled and dried. When the soldiers had gone, the workers wondered what they could do with the oxidised tea that smelt of soldiers. One villager suggested roasting the tea over pine rather than bamboo to hide the bad smell of the damaged tea.
