In the rolling tea gardens of Shizuoka Prefecture, the celebrated Tsuyuhikari cultivar is more commonly crafted into vibrant green teas renowned for their sweetness and floral elegance. In the hands of skilled tea makers, however, this exceptional cultivar reveals an entirely different expression as a remarkably refined Japanese black tea. Carefully oxidised to preserve its natural aromatic complexity, this Wakōcha unfolds with delicate notes of wildflower honey, ripe stone fruits and soft spring blossoms. The liquor is smooth and velvety, offering a gentle sweetness and remarkable clarity without the strong tannins or astringency often associated with traditional black teas. As the leaves unfurl, layers of apricot, peach and golden honey emerge, carried by a silky texture and a lingering, elegant finish. Its balanced character and natural sweetness make it equally enjoyable on its own or paired with fine pastries and desserts. A rare and sophisticated expression of Japanese tea craftsmanship that beautifully showcases the unique character of the Tsuyuhikari cultivar.
