Among China's Ten Famous Teas, Luan Guapian stands alone. It is the only Chinese green tea made entirely from single mature leaves—no buds, no stems—each one hand-plucked and shaped to resemble a melon seed. Where other teas chase tenderness, Guapian seeks strength: the leaf is left to mature on the bush before picking, giving a cup that is full-bodied, mellow, and almost free of bitterness. Ours comes from Qishan, in the misty high mountains of Jinzhai County, Lu'an, Anhui—the historic heart of the style and its most prized origin. It is grown from the native Qishan middle-leaf heirloom variety, the local cultivar this tea was built on, and finished in the traditional way over charcoal fire. That slow roasting (lao huo) is what gives Luan Guapian its signature warmth: a clear, yellow-green liquor with a gentle toasty depth, a soft vegetal sweetness, and a long, clean finish.
