Dong Fang Mei Ren crafted in the traditional style is produced using the classic “one bud and two leaves” plucking standard and carefully processed according to longstanding Taiwanese tea-making techniques. The result is a beautifully balanced interpretation of one of Taiwan’s most celebrated Oolong teas — elegant, aromatic, and wonderfully complex. The beautifully twisted leaves display the characteristic multicolored appearance prized in premium Dong Fang Mei Ren: shades of deep black, chestnut brown, amber red, soft green, and silvery-white buds intertwine throughout the tea. Even before brewing, the dry leaves release an intoxicating fragrance of floral honey, ripe fruit, warm spice, and bright citrus zest. Once infused, the liquor glows in a radiant golden-amber tone reminiscent of honey illuminated by sunlight. The first infusion opens with intensely aromatic notes of honey, ripe lychee, blooming osmanthus flowers, and vibrant calamansi citrus. On the palate, the tea is exceptionally smooth and rounded, yet richly layered with flavors of dried lychee, floral honey, soft cinnamon spice, and delicate citrus sweetness. With further infusions, the tea develops greater depth and warmth. The liquor deepens into a richer amber-red hue while subtle woody nuances reminiscent of hinoki cedar begin to emerge beneath the fruit and floral character. The lingering sweetness becomes increasingly pronounced, evoking honeyed citrus and ripe tropical fruit that gently coats the palate long after each sip. In later infusions, the tea reveals remarkable complexity and elegance. Notes of dark dried fruit, exotic wood, osmanthus blossoms, warm spice, and candied citrus intertwine harmoniously, creating a beautifully balanced contrast between sweetness, freshness, and gentle spice. This interplay of aromas and textures is what makes traditional Dong Fang Mei Ren such a captivating and memorable tea experience.
